What to do, season by season

Pick the time of year you have in mind: the walks, festivals and places that are really worth it in those months. Distances and times are from the house.

Spring

Nature waking up: clear days, crisp air, villages in bloom and the waterfalls at full flow.

The Infernaccio gorge

From Rubbiano di Montefortino, a spectacular walk between rock walls squeezed over the Tenna river, up to the hermitage of San Leonardo. The waterfalls are at their best in spring; in summer it is one of the coolest walks in the Sibillini.

Summer

Mountain-cool summer: the flowering, the high trails finally open, village festivals and starry skies.

The Castelluccio flowering

The most famous natural spectacle in the Apennines: the Piana Grande turns red, yellow, blue and white. An experience worth the trip on its own.

Lake Pilato

From the hamlet of Foce you climb the Piano della Gardosa and the "Svolte" switchbacks to the glacial lake set beneath Monte Vettore and Cima del Redentore. Its waters are the only home in the world of the Marchesoni fairy shrimp: approaching the shores and swimming are forbidden — you admire it, and that is all.
